Message from Office of Population Affairs

The Office of Population Affairs (OPA) seeks to enhance efforts by Title X agencies to ensure that Long Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC) (Mirena®, ParaGard®, and NEXPLANON®) is a birth control option for clients. LARC is safe and effective for most women seeking to delay pregnancy for 3 to 10 years.

We understand that for Title X agencies to offer LARC, clinicians need to be adequately trained in the insertion and removal of both IUDs and NEXPLANON®. For this reason, OPA has provided funding to the Clinical Training Center for Family Planning to arrange for intrauterine contraception trainings in different regions across the U.S. Merck will also be conducting NEXPLANON® training at the same time as part of this initiative.

OPA provided a limited amount of funding with the request the funds be used to purchase long-acting reversible contraceptives. This funding for supplies, in combination with this training opportunity, is intended to increase the availability of LARC in the Title X system. We are hoping that Title X Medical Directors and Clinic Managers will take advantage of this opportunity to send clinicians to LARC trainings.

We look forward to your support for these training opportunities.

Sincerely,

Marilyn
